II:Advanced Techniques and Production
This class is for people who want to how to approach and develop their
Flash projects effectively.
While the introductory course teaches you the tools of the application,
this class takes you further into production strategies for efficient
use of Flash and will cover go-to, get-URL, preloading, loading external
swf files into levels or movie clips, building menus, loading external
data, communicating across timelines via dot syntax, reading and changing
movie clip properties, scrolling, dragging movie clips, and duplicating
movie clips.
We will not be covering any Generator or advanced ActionScripting in this
course. This is a project-based class. Over the course of six weeks you
will be expected to complete five mini-projects to get credit for the
class.
Numerous in class exercises and assignments will build your foundation
in efficient Flash production techniques.
Who Should Take This Course
This is a class for advanced students and working professionals who wish
to learn advanced production techniques as well as a strategy for approaching
Flash projects and developing them effectively.
Completion of the Flash tutorials is not enough information to be in this
course.
Prerequisites
Macromedia Flash I required. You must take the Flash I class first, as
we cover no tools in Flash II. Please obtain permission from the instructor
before signing up for this class.
ActionScripting
Course Description
In Flash ActionScripting you will learn how to define, plan, and debug
your own programs in Flash.We will review the most advanced concepts of
Flash II and then jump directly into learning ActionScripting in Flash
as a true programming language. We will cover variables, operators, built-in
objects, decision making, looping, events, arrays and building our own
custom functions.
Various in-class examples, quizzes and outside assignments will cement
and increase your ability to think in the language of ActionScript. We
will apply our ActionScripting towards writing multiple applications.
Good programming design and principles will be emphasized. After completing
this course, you will be able to complete and debug your own ActionScript
programs. You will also leave the class with a set of tools and techniques
for writing and debugging ActionScript applications.
Who should take this class?
Intermediate and advanced Flash developers who want to understand and
write powerful programs in Flash.
WARNING
This class is intense. Please come to class with a desire to learn and
some time on your hands. Numerous in class exercises, outside reading
and programming assignments will build your foundation in ActionScript.
You MUST have solid Flash production skills.The following WILL NOT be
covered and MUST be familiar to you: preloading, loading external swf

Design For Mobile Devices
It's arrived! The era of rich mobile media development is upon
us and this is the hands-on workshop to give you all the info
and practice you need to be on the cutting edge by creating
Flash content for PDAs, mobile phones and next generation
devices right now.
We'll explore the mobile Flash landscape by looking at working
prototypes and actual applications that leverage the current
mobile Flash player technology.
Since this is a hands-on class where each attendee gets their
own computer, we'll follow up our discussions with exercises
that show you exactly what you need to know to produce your
own mobile content. Particular emphasis will be placed on
creating great multimedia experiences on phones for Flash Lite.
